This immersive watercolor workshop begins in a comfortable studio setting, providing a relaxed environment to focus on essential watercolor techniques before transitioning to two consecutive days of painting en plein air in the beautiful surroundings of coastal Maine. Throughout the workshop, students will explore and develop skills such as:
Fundamental strategies for identifying strong compositions and compelling subject matter when painting outdoors
Using preliminary sketches to establish the focal point of your composition
Conveying the essence of a scene through a limited color palette
Employing a painterly approach to watercolor application
Bringing the painting to completion with effective use of dark values and expressive calligraphic marks
While we aim to make the most of outdoor painting opportunities, we return to the studio when necessary—whether for deeper instruction or in the event of bad weather. This flexible structure ensures a productive and enjoyable experience, rain or shine.
Note: students need an outdoor plein air rig for the outdoor painting portion of the workshop. Recommendations for en plein air equipment and accessories provided upon request.

About Vlad
Vladislav Yeliseyev is a renowned watercolor and plein air artist known for his ability to capture everyday scenes with a unique perspective. Originally from Russia, he brought his Classical Art education and a Master's Degree in Architecture to the United States when he immigrated from Russia in the 1980s.
For over 30 years, Vladislav has lived and worked in the United States, amassing a dedicated following of art enthusiasts. His paintings can be found in personal and commercial collections worldwide. His artwork is praised for its mastery of light and color, showcased through bold brushstrokes, skillful color schemes, and clear calligraphy. With a limited palette and minimal brushstrokes Vlad creates paintings that evoke a sense of the depicted objects rather than their intricate details. He often employs warm colors to achieve richness while maintaining the transparency of watercolor. Vladislav's artistic goal is to express as much as possible with minimal brushwork, allowing the viewer to experience the essence of the scene.
